How to Care for Your Outdoor Space Like a Pro
You’ve invested in your outdoor space—whether it’s a lush new lawn, beautiful landscaping, or a complete backyard transformation. Now, it’s time to protect that investment with proper care and maintenance to keep everything looking its best season after season.
Our team of experts put together a few essential lawn care tips to help you maintain a healthy, vibrant yard:
Use High-Quality Fertilizer
Not all fertilizers are created equal. To give your lawn the nutrients it needs, always choose a high-quality fertilizer. Apply it with a broadcast-type spreader for even coverage and consistent results. Feeding your lawn regularly is key to keeping it green, thick, and healthy.
Timing is Everything with Weed & Feed
To get the most out of your weed and feed applications:
Apply when there’s heavy dew on the grass, which helps the product stick to the weeds.
Try to avoid rain for 36-48 hours afterward so it doesn't wash away before it can do its job.
If you’re using a liquid weed killer, the no-rain window should extend to 48 hours.
(As always, be sure to read and follow the specific directions on your product label!)
Leave Those Clippings!
It might be tempting to bag your clippings, but they’re actually great for your lawn. Grass clippings break down quickly—usually within 8-14 days—and return valuable Nitrogen and organic material to your soil.
And don’t worry! Clippings do not cause thatch buildup. In fact, they’re one of the easiest ways to naturally boost your lawn’s health.
Mow at the Right Height
For a strong, deep root system, set your mower to 2 ½ inches throughout the growing season. This helps your grass stay healthy, withstand drought, and outcompete weeds.
At the end of the season, before winter hits, drop your mower height to 1 ½ inches for the final cut. This helps prevent snow mold and other issues during the colder months.
Consistency is Key
Good lawn care is all about regular attention and knowing when to take action. Follow these tips, and your outdoor space will stay healthy, beautiful, and ready to enjoy all season long.
